Japanese Cooking class in Melbourne, Australia

Incorporating Australia ingredients into Japanese cuisine based on the concept of “Home Cooking” enhances the depth of flavor and aroma by utilizing the umami of dashi broth.

By focusing on the visual appeal of the ingredients’ colors, shapes, and presentation in traditional Japanese tableware, one can enter a state of mindfulness. To begin the lesson, we recommend savoring Japanese tea slowly, which helps alleviate tension and stress, creating a relaxed state. We introduce familiar dishes such as Sushi, Fried chicken, Ramen, commonly enjoyed by Japanese individuals, catering to those who are not accustomed to Japanese cuisine.

Yasuko (Melbourne Australia)

I am Yasuko, from Melbourne Australia

Through my husband’s work, I have lived in Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar in the Middle East, and Sydney in Australia, before finally settling in Melbourne. In each place, I had the joy of welcoming friends from many different cultural backgrounds into my home and sharing Japanese home cooking.

While Japanese cuisine is often seen as delicate and complicated, I love showing that it can actually be simple, nourishing, and approachable. Teaching easy, authentic Japanese dishes has always brought wonderful smiles and heartfelt appreciation.

In Australia, the concept of shokuiku — food education — is not yet widely known. One day, I hope to share this philosophy with children here, nurturing a deeper understanding of food, culture, and wellbeing.

Through Washocook, I would be delighted to share the beauty of simple Japanese home cooking with the local community and look forward to the meaningful connections that begin around the table.
